Rapid assembly for co-packers
Ration is a philanthropic cannabis brand that gives back to NPOs that help veterans and their families. I am a co-founder of this brand so I’ve had my hands on many components of the company. This page, however, focuses on the packaging for the initial “function”, or “effect-based” vaporizer line. I designed the dielines and graphics.
Structurally the goal was to create a low-cost slide box that is extremely fast for co-packer assembly.

Graphic Inspiration
The name Ration literally comes from military rations, known in the modern world as “MREs”. The packaging was to be utilitarian and easily distinguishable.
Adapting an existing mechanism for an entirely new use case
“Auto-lock” boxes are wonderful because of the speed of assembly, but they require a secondary measure to lock them in place, like a top locking flap, and are often combined with the product filling most of the volume of the box. The vast majority of the time the “auto-lock” face is the smallest face.
How it works
Tray, arrives flat. Squeeze edges to erect.
A hardware insert card is legally required. The card was sized to make the ridgid, ie. preventing folding in on itself. Then the product, inside a CR tube is added
The exterior sleeve arrives flat. Squeeze edges to erect. Then the tray is inserted.
Exterior batch-specific testing labels are required. The label is placed over an edge, and adhered to both the exterior sleeve and tray. This provides a tamper-evident seal.
Retail presence
Sticking with the military theme, some displays were repurposed “Jerry Cans”, a vessel used to carry gas, notably used by the army.
Apart from our standard acrylic retail displays, repurposed vintage items were also utilized.
A special edition display represeted the HUD and tactical box featured in our sizzle reel. This sizzle reel is discussed in further detail in the project, Palate Provisions.
