Dielines & Graphics

Click is a cannabis-infused mouth spray, designed by BeGreen Supply, which is where I was working at the time. After Industrial Design and engineering, Click went to an agency for branding, and then they came back to us for the actual packaging design.

My role throughout the process was creating the dielines and production files sent to the factory. My graphic role started more minimally, in the first phase, but in the later phases, I was ultimately the sole graphic designer responsible.

Born & Bred did a wonderful job doing the branding, and mock packaging. But for a low-cost, paper solution this round edge box was not feasible.

V1 Packaging

After trying many variations to rounded corners, the feature was either far too expensive, or was diluted so much that it made the packaging look cheaper rather than the original intent of sleek & custom.

So the outer form became rather standard, and the focus shifted to the opening experience.

Tear to open.

Reinforcing the on-the-go nature of the product. Giving a more unique experience while carrying on the triangle motif.

Cannabis products must be sold in Child-Resistant packaging (in most states, including CA, where this product was first released). So inside of the box, the final product was inside of a low-cost CR pouch.

Nesting packaging also allowed the inclusion of a scratch-off reward placement, which could not be on the external packaging.

V2 Packaging

The device was an extruded triangle, what not make the box match?

Prioritizing cost & matching the form factor of the device.

The first box wasted airspace in shipping, and required more labor for co-packers to assemble(domestic). This new box was designed to ship flat and be faster for assembly, thus reducing cost. Assembly stages shown below. Co-packers should be able to achieve 3-5 seconds per piece.

V3 Packaging

Giving the box more shelf presence, while retaining the triangular form factor.

Solving for 2 other issues, shown below.

Problem: Some dispensaries started hanging products, so they started adding unsightly hangers to the box.

Solution: Optional integrated hanger tab. Just tear the perforated tab open if applicable.

Problem: Some dispensaries were adding secondary labels which was covering important information on the box

Solution: Open space on the box rear to allow for label placement.
